Miller’s Famous Sandwiches, a New England based sandwich shop well known for its authentic, slow roasted, sliced to order, famous roast beef sandwiches, has recently announced the release of its new restaurant prototype design. The new prototype features a fresh bold design that incorporates memorable architectural elements, community style seating, a customized (to the community) inspirational mural & a social media call to action selfie wall that reminds everyone - Miller’s has “The Best Thing Between Two Buns!”
Design focus on maximizing efficiencies and increasing profitability.
A lot of careful planning and attention to detail went into the new prototype design. A study was done to ensure that the most efficient equipment design plan was in place. This efficiency will yield to greater profitability for franchisees. The furniture and fixtures were carefully chosen to ensure build out costs were kept to a minimum without sacrificing quality of the products being sourced.
The square footage of the locations has been reduced in direct response to the shift in consumer spending habits. Consumers are dining out more often now, however their dining patterns have changed dramatically shifting to more pickup & delivery orders. Refrigerated & heated pickup lockers were incorporated as part of the re-design. This allows customers or delivery drivers to pick up their food quickly and exit the building as soon as complete.
Focus on incorporating memorable architectural elements into exterior design.
Over the years, restaurant brands have moved away from memorable architectural elements in favor of non-descript exteriors that didn’t define or differentiate the brand in any way. Miller’s goal was to ensure that as much thought went into defining the interior was also given to the exterior. Miller’s exteriors boast distinct architectural details such as brick, warm wood accents, brand colored board & baton as well as green space combined with exterior patio dining options.

Miller’s new design boasts an open kitchen concept that ensures the customers and team members are part of the dining experience together. Miller’s is proud to be one of the only franchise brands in the market that is preparing its roast beef fresh – slow roasting it every night for 14 hours, handcrafting each sandwich thinly sliced to order – perfectly tender and delicious. Showing this off was an important part of their design.
Guests will find that the new store design maintains Miller’s signature family style community tables & counter seating but pairs it with wood and natural elements to create a more modern aesthetic. Additionally, the new design separates the ordering process from the dining room, so once guests get their food, they can relax and hang out separate from those waiting to order, while enjoying their quality sandwiches.
Guests will have the choice of ordering at the counter in the traditional manner, online or directly at their table by scanning a QR code with their phones, placing an order and having it delivered to their table. Miller’s embraces forward thinking technology options that can enhance the customers dining experience. Every decision made regarding the integration of new technology must answer yes to the question “Will this enhance the customers dining experience?”.
